The presente article is aimed at addressing the issue about the nature of art, particularly the tragic poetry, its effects on individuals and the censorship of the poetry, according to Plato’s conception in Republic, more specifically in books II, III and X. In the Republic Plato goes against the traditional Greek model of education when he censors, condemns and rejects poetry as an instrument for individuals’ formation.
