This bachelor thesis offers an overview of the influence that English has on contemporary Brazilian Portuguese. The thesis is based on secondary literature and it is comprised of seven parts. The first part describes history of linguistic and cultural contact that Brazil has had with English-speaking countries. The thesis then moves chronologically to the current contact. It mentions the unique position of English as a lingua franca. The text also explains that many extra-linguistic factors are involved in the development of a language; these are connected to culture and lifestyle of English-speaking countries as well as technological development.
