A Portuguese Approach to the Internet Comunication Language

This thesis researches the use of the Portuguese language in informal communication on Internet. The language code on Internet is influenced by the nature of its environment, demanding rapidity and the desire for spontaneity similar to verbal communication. In the theoretical part, not only did we summarise pieces of knowledge from lexicology and sociology, but we also focused on typical phenomena in internet communication. In the practical part, we performed lexical, syntactic and morphological analysis of corpora from Internet discussions and Brazilian and Portuguese chats. At the end, we present an analysis of the results from the questionnaires that were used to ask the respondents about their habits in informal communication on Internet
