International audienceIn Rouen, apprenticeship sources and craft organizations were combined at the end of the thirteenth century. In the fourteenth century, the majority of professional organizations supervised training, with exceptions similar to those in Paris. An apprenticeship was required even for those workers who had already acquired technical skills through activities close to or outside Rouen. Authorities sometimes favored migrants by abolishing the requirement of a local apprenticeship. Nevertheless, the craft guilds for “foreigners” ended up regulating apprenticeships just like other guilds during the fifteenth century.
