The flip method of teaching involves providing students with material to watch, read orengage with prior to the actual in-class lesson. This method is thought to support students in takingresponsibility for their own learning (with careful selection of the supporting material, whichis often in the form of pre-recorded video lectures), to improve engagement and usefulness ofcontact time, and to provide a richer learning environment for students. This article provides someexamples of using the flip method in science, engineering and product design pitched at A-level andfirst-year undergraduate levels in the UK
