Educational Research in Practice: Making Sense of Methodology has been designed for an international readership of research students and professional researchers. Swann and Pratt set out to create a book about research that encourages a consideration of basic methodological issues and offers an eclectic but rigorous approach to education research. Various researchers, representing diverse approaches, have been given space to expound their points of view, and there are four dialogue chapters, each involving one editor and one other contributor. Swann and Pratt both draw on their experience as Popperian researchers and, writing together, they offer principles for good research practice and a substantial glossary of research terms and their usage. In addition to being a co-editor, Swann co-authored five chapters and is sole author of a substantial chapter presenting a synthesis of the principal themes of her philosophical and empirical research.
