The application of high pressure advanced fuel injection equipment allows for better control of spray mixing, which ultimately can lead to a more favourable trade-off in noise, soot and NOx formation across the engine operating map. The new Diesel research facility at the University of Brighton has been specifically designed to enable the study of Diesel sprays at realistic automotive in-cylinder conditions while simultaneously providing excellent optical access for both qualitative and quantitative measurements of the combusting/non-combusting spray.
