Thesis (MFamMed)--Stellenbosch University, 2013.ENGLISH SUMMARY : Background: Lifestyle modifications have been shown to lower blood pressure. Many guidelines recommend lifestyle modifications in the management of hypertension. Comprehensive adoption of the relevant lifestyle modifications has the greatest benefit. Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study with a qualitative component. Information on adherence was collected from 227 participants, using a structured questionnaire utilising Likert scales. In-depth interviews to assess knowledge and attitudes were conducted.
