The distribution of six chalcophile elements between olivines (Mg₁₋ₓ Mₓ)₂ SiO₄ and sulphides MS were studied experimentally at 600° C. The elements are classified, according to their increasing affinity for sulphur, in the following order : Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Cd. This sequence is similar to that established, by Goldschmidt from the free energies of formation of oxides and sulphides.
