The application of very slow neutrons for small angle scattering on lattice distortions of long range or large dimensions has advantages as compared to X-ray scattering, namely : (i) The existence of magnetic interaction ; (ii) The elimination of double Bragg scattering ; (iii) The possible accessibility of very small K — values (κ ~ 2 π θ/λ, K = scattering vector) . The disadvantage of neutrons is the low luminosity of reactors. Therefore, the instruments must have large slit widths (very long instruments), and large solid angles (focusing systems with total reflecting mirrors). Experience with such instruments will be presented. One of the applications of neutron small angle scattering to be discussed in detail is the investigation of dis...
