Iron ore deposits are often under close control of karstic bedrock as well in the surface or subsurface such as in pockets, large depressions (dolines, uvalas, paleo-valleys orpoljes), or even endokarst. In Périgord and franconian Jura it is possible to meet all types of figures known and exploited since the most ancient history. The micropetrographical study of the ore fades and of wheathering processes of the supposed parenbt rock seems to exclude that the origin of the iron in the ore concentrations is related to the release of this element by limestone or dolomite wheathering.
