The crystal structure of fourmarierite from Shinkolobwe (Zaire) has been determined by X-ray diffraction. R = 0.046 for 2750 observed reflections. Formula Pb[(UO2)4O3(OH)4].4H2O. Orthorhombic system ; space group Bb21m ; a = 13,986(4), b = 16,400(5), c = 14,293(9) Å ; Z = 8. The structure consists of [(UO2)4O3(OH)4]n2n- layers connected by Pb2O14 groups and by water molecules. In the layers each UO2++ is surrounded by 5 oxygen atoms. Each Pb2++ is surrounded by 9 oxygen atoms (~ mono-capped square antiprism).
