Numerical analogs of the processes which redistribute chemical components in cooling magma environments simulate the dynamics of hydrothermal systems and provide a basis for interpreting data on modern and fossil systems. These simulation techniques are based on partial differential equations which represent the concentration change in any extensive variable with respect to time as a function of advective and molecular transfer. Numerical approximation of these equations then permits calculation, with modern, high-speed large memory computers, of transport phenomena for multicomponent-multiphase systems.
