Structure cristalline de l'upalite Al[(UO2)3O(OH)(PO4)2].7H2O. Un exemple de macle mimétique

The crystal structure of natural upalite from Kobokobo (Zaïre) is determined. Formula : Al[(UO₂)₃O(OH)(PO₄)₂].7H₂O. Monoclinic system, space group P2₁/a ; a = 13.704(4), b = 16.82(1), c = 9.332(2) Å, β = 111.5(1)°, V = 2,001 ų, Z = 4. Crystals are always twinned and present the perfect appearance of orthorhombic symmetry. Structure type : phosphuranylite. Layers are connected by two octahedral centrosymmetrical AlO₂(H₂O)₄ and Al(H₂O)₆ groups and by 2 H₂O.La structure cristalline de l'upalite naturelle de Kobokobo (Zaïre) a été déterminée. Les cristaux sont invariablement maclés et simulent parfaitement la symétrie orthorhombique. Type structural : phosphuranylite. Les feuillets sont reliés entre eux par deux groupes octaédriques centrosymétriques AlO₂(H₂O)₄ and Al(H₂O)₆ et par deux molécules d'eau.Piret Paul, Declercq Jean-Paul.
