The denomination of odours : linguistic variation and regularity. The study investigates the denomination of odours in a sample of 60 languages and 9 language families. It is shown that a number of specific odour types are predominantly lexicalised in many languages, thus indicating that these regularities are the linguistic manifestations of a combination of factors, psychophysical, cultural, and others.On étudie la dénomination des odeurs dans un échantillon de 60 langues et de 9 familles de langues.
