The partitioning of K, Rb, Cs, Ca, Sr and Ba in the experimental systems crystalline albite -aqueous vapor, and molten albite -aqueous vapor has been investigated at temperatures of respectively 800° and 890° C and pressure of 1.500 bars. The following crystalline albite -molten albite trace element distribution coefficients, D, were deduced from the data : 1.4. 10-1 (K) ; 1.45 10-2 (Rb) ; 8. 10-3 (Cs) ; 3.85 (Ca) ; 11.45 (Sr) ; 4.05 (Ba). A thermodynamic analysis based on Henry's law and the observation of the function — RTLn D shows that the increasing magmatophile character of the alkali elements with increasing radius is related to the increasing difficulty of their substitution in the albite lattice.
