This paper reviews the methods used to analyse and predict the formation of deformation textures in polycrystalline materials. It is divided into three parts : — a description of the general theoretical frame and the basic principles of the models of plastic deformation of poly crystals and of the simplifying hypotheses made in the different models ; — a description of the application of Taylor's model, illustrated by some metallurgical examples ; — a discussion of the limits of this model putting forward the interest of the elastic plastic accommodation self consistent model.
