Salt pans at Salin-de-Giraud are submitted to seasonal alternations from summer-hypersaline to winter-brackish environmental conditions, which are clearly shown by the variations of δ18O values in water of the solutions : enrichment by evaporation effect during summer, depletion in 18O resulting from large dilutions by meteoric waters during winter. These effects are also recorded by the isotope contents of hydration waters of gypsums, which are crystallizing or dissolving as a function of chemical equilibria with surrounding solutions.
