Differences in scale (up to 106 in surface) between present salt ponds and large evaporitic accumulations set the problem of mechanisms which are transposable from the former to the latter and of parameters which must be enlarged in such a transposition. There are analogies in : 1 -general sequence (from detritals to halite) ; 2 -some biological and petrographical features ; 3 -role of (micro) topography in faciès différenciation. An ecological inventory of brines allows to precise environmental and event bathyme-trical significance of numerous species.
