During Oligocene and Miocene, syntectonic continental formations are successively settled into grabens and compressive structures, on the southern margin of the future Castellane Arc. Carbonated clastic material and siliceous one come from the dismantling of the continental margins of Tertiary basins. The use of thermoluminescence shows that the cristalline Massif of Provence and its Permian + Triassic cover constituted the initial source of detrital quartzose material.
