Utilization of geochemistry to explain the setting of the phosphatic series of the Ganntour basin (Morocco)

Factor analyses on the mineralogical and geochemical datas from 739 samples representative of the whole package of the phosphorite series of the Ganntour Basin point out two chief factors : one axis is detrital-chemical and a second axis is dolomitization-phosphatization. Step by step analysis has been carried out along these two variables with the help of CaO and P -O-in terms of which the quantitative variations of the minerals and chemical elements have been studied. Tnese diagrams show three fields which would correspond to three stages in the formation and evolution of the deposit. 1) One stage where apatite and dolomite form concomitantly. 2) Dynamic reworking with segregation of the minerals : enrichment in phosphate. 3) Meteoric weathering : dedolomitization, caicitization. Thus, in the Ganntour deposit, these three stages subsist, which indicates that this deposit is a parautochtonal little reworked deposit ; its weak dipping allowed the preservation of a deep zone which stayed out of reach of meteoric weathering. This deposit seems to be one of the best models for a complete study of the formation of phosphate accumulations.Les analyses factorielles à partir des résultats minéralogiques et géochimiques de 739 échantillons représentatifs des séries phosphatées de l'ensemble du Bassin des Ganntour font apparaître deux facteurs explicatifs principaux : un axe détritique-chimique et un axe dolomitisation-phosphatisation. L'analyse statistique pas à pas est menée le long de ces deux variables à l'aide de CaO et de P2O5» en fonction desquels sont étudiées les variations quantitatives des minéraux et des éléments chimiques. Il apparaît sur ces diagrammes trois domaines qui correspondraient à trois étapes de la formation et de l'évolution du gisement. 1) Etape de la formation concomitante d'apatite et de dolomite. 2) Reprise dynamique avec ségrégation des minéraux : enrichissement en phosphate. 3) Altération météorique : dédolomitisation, calcitisation. Ainsi dans le gisement des Ganntour ces trois étapes subsistent, ce qui indique que ce gisement est un gisement parau-tochtone peu remanié dont la structure à faible pendage a permis la conservation d'une zone profonde hors de portée de l'altération météorique. Ce gisement paraît être un des meilleurs modèles pour l'étude complète de la formation des accumulations phosphatées.Prévôt Liliane, Lucas Jacques.
