Factors Related to the Occupations of Norris High School Farm Male Graduates

The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to the occupations of the 1947-1966 male farm graduates of the five high schools that now comprise the Norris School District. The specific objectives of the study were to determine: The relation between the graduates’ occupation and selected characteristics of their home environments. The relations between the graduates’ occupations and their educational backgrounds. Some measures of occupational status of the graduates. The persons selected for inclusion in this study were all male graduates whose fathers were engaged in farming at the time of their sons’ graduation from high school. Graduates who only lived on farms and their fathers were not actively engaged in farming, were excluded from the study. The data for the study was collected by a questionnaire. The questionnaire was mailed to all farm male graduates with known addresses, who were not in a post-high school, a university, or employed in the military service. The survey instrument obtained information on the graduates’ home and educational backgrounds as well as information dealing with what they thought had influenced them in selecting their present occupation.
