Year of High School Graduation Related to the Occupational Factors of Nebraska Farm Male High School Graduates

Several studies have been conducted in Nebraska to determine what has happened to former vocational agriculture graduates. Most of these were conducted on the local school level. This study, however, was designed to survey on a state-wide basis the factors related to the occupational status of all male farm Nebraska high school graduates by year of graduation from 1954 to 1958. The specific objectives of the study were to determine: The relations between the graduates’ occupations and year of graduation. The relations between the graduates’ occupations and selected characteristics of their home environment by year of graduation. The relations between the graduates’ occupations and their educational backgrounds by year of graduation. Some measures of occupational status of graduates by years of graduation. Graduates included in the study were those whose fathers were farming on the day their sons were graduated from high school or who had farmed during most of the time that their sons were attending high school. Graduates who had enrolled in six or more semesters of vocational agriculture were also included in the study. The final sample of respondents numbered 1120; the final response rate was 92.9 percent.
