Adjustments in Farm Organization for Tol Village in Turkey with Moderate Improvements in Technology

The general area of concern which prompted this study was the low income of the farmers in Tol. The low production of hay and pasture has restricted the production of livestock. The low production of both crops and livestock has resulted in incomes which are not sufficient to meet the requirements for a satisfactory level of living. Thus, improved methods of farming (e.g., fertilizer, better seeds, mechanization), more land under cropping system than under fallow and increased livestock production through better feeding have been suggested in alternative plans as a method by which farm income in Tol may be raised. It has been shown that reorganization and improved practices will increase the net income. The gains in income from the alternative plans would be about 500 percent and more. About one-third would be from increased yields and one-third would be from more dekars cropped each year and the one-third would be from livestock and livestock production. However, the farming costs would be increased in alternative plans, but at the same time there would be an increase in net income, too. Advisor: A. W. Ep
