The purpose of this thesis was to study the variation in the chemical composition of alfalfa leaves, stems, and the whole plant among cuttings within and among cutting systems. The effect of leaf to stem ratio on chemical composition of the whole plant and the relationship between the cell-wall components and in vitro dry matter disappearance within both the whole plant and the two fractions were investigated.
