Agricultural Policies and the Future of Agriculture in the Sudan

The problem can be summarized as follows: The embarkment of the Sudanese Government upon the large scale schemes to produce more export products is not compatible with the future economic and social welfare of the Sudanese people. The adoption of foreign agricultural policies by the Sudanese Government without considering their suitability and adaptability to the local conditions will not achieve the desired objectives for the Sudanese agriculture. The objectives of this study are as follows: To survey and study the current state of agricultural efficiency, the policy needs and the present agricultural policy use of the Sudan. To inventory and evaluate the agricultural policies of selected nations, Canada, Sweden and the United States, in terms of application in the Sudan. To propose agricultural policy alternatives that would be appropriate for Sudanese economic growth. Advisor: Glen J. Vollma
