In this study, the object was, first, to test the three parent varieties, Atlas, Trebi and Manchuria, for yield and other quantitative characters, and determine by statistical analysis which parent was superior for the characters studied. By observation and summarization of experimental data, it was hoped to gain some knowledge as to which characters each parent can be depended upon to transmit to progenies. Secondly, by studying the behavior of the 65 introduced parents in combination with Atlas, Trebi and Manchuria, it was desired to determine which contain superior germ plasm as exhibited through “combining ability”.
