A laboratory phase of the study was conducted to determine the Zn status of the soil used in the experiment and, if possible, to estimate the Zn status of these soils from different parts of the state. Two extraction procedures were used to determine soil Zn and these values were related to Zn uptake by the plant. Other soil properties were related to Zn to determine which properties affected the amount of Zn that was extracted. Multiple correlation was used to relate soil Zn and other soil properties to the uptake of Zn by the plant. By relating soil Zn and the other soil properties to total Zn uptake by the plant, it is hoped to show which Zn method and soil property are most effective in estimating the Zn status of the soils in Nebraska....
