Interest in self-assembled organometallic supramolecular structures has increased considerably over the last few years, due to the relative ease of constructing large molecules by this approach as compared to traditional methods of organic synthesis. One challenge of self-assembly is controlling which individual ligand units will assemble onto the metal during the formation of the complex. We have found that the use of bisoxazoline ligands will allow for the control of the ligand order, as well as the overall complex architecture, and we propose that this approach may have applications toward the rational construction of novel supramolecular structures.
