The purpose of this qualitative study was to discover what factors were relevant to the career development of human resource development practitioners and to propose a theory about career management in a climate of continuous change. Twenty-seven professional trainers were purposefully and theoretically chosen to gather data through interviews. In addition, two focus groups discussed careers in the human resource development field; the first group explored the future of the training industry, and the second group examined the results of the data collection and confirmed the emergent theory.
