In the last 50 years, our knowledge of the “classical” period in Judea has been growing by leaps and bounds. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and other archaeological treasures has provided fresh insight into this era of Greek and Roman domination. As a companion volume to A History of Ancient Israel by John Hayes and J.
