The progressive emplacement of igneous bodies of various sizes was a major process that ruled the renewal of the continental crust after the apex of the Variscan collision. Although late- to post-Variscan magmatic intrusions have been locally reported as intermittent events, if considered at the scale of the whole European Variscan belt, their age range of tens of millions years refects the long lasting perturbed thermo-mechanical state that has been affecting the lithosphere since the end of the Variscan cycle.
