Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) [PLGA] is the most exploited biodegradable and biocompatible material in the pharmaceutical field for the preparation of long- acting parenteral formulations, despite there are limitations related to the PLGA itself or to the final product to face with. These mainly include the limited ability in encapsulating hydrophilic compounds, the physical and chemical instabilities in aqueous media, the detrimental effect of the sterilization methods and the drop off in the micro-environmental pH upon degradation.
