Background Cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease represents a major cause of post-transplantation morbidity and mortality. To estimate the risk of infection and monitor response to antiviral therapy, current guidelines suggest combination of viral load monitoring with direct assessment of CMV-specific immune response.
