This paper aims to offer a systematic study of the genres used in the tourist industry. After a discussion of the concept of genre, a hierarchical classification will be put forward in order to cover the complex variety of genres, often hybrid, used in tourist communication. I shall take into account not only genres regarding organization and management (contracts, regulations, etc.) but also genres elaborated for the description and promotion of tourist places (guide books, brochures, etc.), as well as new genres created in the Internet, thanks to which users become experts in tourist communication (newsgroups, blogs, etc.), and which could subvert the traditional paradigms of tourist communication
