An analysis of writings on Italian opera in the Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung in the early 19th c. provides insight into the image Italian opera had in general in Germany. It is important to note that the paper had several correspondents in Italy, and thus was able to juxtapose on-site experiences with Italian opera reception in Germany
