International audienceThis article uses unpublished data from the regional linguistic atlases for theLanguedoc to make a comparative study of the spread of the desinence -i through firstperson singular forms. Diachronic data show that the desinence -i is etymologicalin very few paradigm categories; analysis of modern dialectal variation tracesthe progressive generalisation of this desinence, which in many varieties is nowsystematic for first person singular forms.
