Des tomates et des femmes: Transformation agricole et division sexuelle du travail au Bénin

International audienceBased on feminist research works, the article proposes to analyze gender relations in productive and reproductive activities related to food, carried out by groups in rural areas in Benin. The research shows how food-centered activities are an indicator and a factor of gender role assignment, legitimized and fueled by the social value linked to it. Productive food-centered activities and the income it generates are source of recognition and empowerment but also reinvested and thought by women so as to best match injunctions to be a « good mother » and a « good wife ». However, gaps in the power relations and changes happen because of the dual nature of the activities and the capacity for mobilization and cohesion of women.S’appuyant sur des travaux de recherche féministes, l’article propose d’analyser les rapports de pouvoir entre les femmes et les hommes dans des activités productives et reproductives liées à l’alimentation, réalisées par des groupements en zones rurales au Bénin. L’enquête illustre combien ces tâches sont un indicateur et un facteur d’assignation aux rôles de sexe, légitimés et alimentés par la valorisation sociale. Le travail productif lié à l’alimentation et les revenus sont enjeux d’empowerment tout en étant réinvestis et pensés de façon à remplir au mieux les injonctions à être une « bonne mère » et une « bonne épouse ». Cependant, des brèches dans les rapports de pouvoir et des changements s’opèrent du fait du caractère double de l’activité de transformation et de la capacité de mobilisation et de cohésion des enquêtées
