International audienceBased on feminist research works, the article proposes to analyze gender relations in productive and reproductive activities related to food, carried out by groups in rural areas in Benin. The research shows how food-centered activities are an indicator and a factor of gender role assignment, legitimized and fueled by the social value linked to it. Productive food-centered activities and the income it generates are source of recognition and empowerment but also reinvested and thought by women so as to best match injunctions to be a « good mother » and a « good wife ».
