The concise synthesis of a novel chiral diyne substrate for the assembly of chiral naphthylpyridines was described and different conditions for the cobalt-catalyzed co-cyclotrimerization with nitriles investigated. The products are novel naphthylpyridines possessing configurationally stable biaryl axes.(VLID)342317
