Most infections caused by these bacteria are difficult to treat because of their low susceptibility to antibiotics, which is often associated with their ability to adhere to surfaces and form biofilms. Therefore, the World Health Organization has classified these microorganisms as top priority bacteria that urgently require the development of novel therapeutic approaches.
