La Buhayra de Sevilla. De Huertas a Jardines

The historical evolution and transformation of the Buhayra of Seville (Spain) is studied, from its origins as medieval orchards on the urban periphery, to its partial restoration as urban public gardens nowadays. To this end, special attention is given to its analysis through the nineteenth century city plans of Seville, a period of transition from rural to urban space, just when the gradual extramural expansion of the city over its surroundings began. Although it has changed hands several times and undergone various modifications in both use and dimension, it has finally been saved from total infilling and destruction thanks to its identification, protection and reutilisation.
