Image that has been hung on a wall as part of History Exhibits for the College of Veterinary Medicine, depicts the building referred to a "Old Main" with the student body in formation ready for inspection by the Corps Commander. Physical description: color prints (photographs), 9X12.5mm, with negativeThis building was the first building to be built on the Texas A&M Campus, or then known as The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas and has long been referred to as "Old Main". Built in 1875 it originally housed offices of College Administration, dormitories and a library. This building was destroyed in a fire in 1912 and students assisted in the demolishing of the remains useing cannon fire instead of a wreaking ball, and in the end pulling it down with ropes. Another image of this building can be view in this collection, see image 4749. “We had a room about 14 x 16 feet that was on the ground floor of the Main Building (destroyed by fire in May 1912) that served as office, classroom and laboratory. At the end of the school year-June 1889-the adjoining room became vacant and was assigned to us as a classroom. In this unsuitable place we toiled for 15 years.†--Mark Franci
