This paper studies the main source of the play El negro del mejor amo: Antíobo de Cerdeña. The analysis reveals an indisputable relationship, already declared in the title, between Lope de Vega’s piece and some chapters dedicated to the life of Saint Antioco, patron of the Italian island of Sardinia, in the hagiographic text Crónica de los santos de Cerdeña. The article indicates the textual concordances found between the two works and aims at revealing the value that Lope de Vega’s piece preserves, concerning not only the important Spanish-Sardinian hagiographic tradition on which it relies, but also regarding the identification of the dramatic genre to which the play belongs.El presente artículo pretende estudiar la fuente principal de la...
