Between morphology, semantics and pragmatics: the reprise evidential conditional with perception verbs in old catalan

L’ús condicional evidencial reportatiu (CER) es restringeix al llenguatge periodístic i a gèneres formals, com ara l’acadèmic o el jurídic, i no és present en el discurs espontani en català. En aquest article s’atén el sorgiment del condicional com a marcador epistèmic i evidencial en contextos de represa en català antic (s. XIV-XVI), concretament quan el CER és introduït per un verb de percepció. La subjectivació i la intersubjectivació es revelen com a factors decisius per a entendre els diversos matisos semàntics i pragmàtics que pot assumir el condicional evidencial reportatiu.The reprise evidential conditional (REC) is nowadays not very usual in Catalan: it is restricted to journalistic language and to some very formal genres (such as academic or legal language) and it is not present in spontaneous discourse. This paper is centred on the rise of the conditional as an epistemic and evidential marker in reporting contexts in Old Catalan, specifically with perception verbs. Subjectivisation and intersubjectivisation are identified as decisive factors for an understanding of the various semantic and pragmatic facets that reprise evidential conditionals may exhibit
