In many structures such as parking structures, office and residential buildings the use of versatile factory-made unbonded tendons has been nearly standardized. Yet, only on rare occasion, this type of tendons has been utilized in bridges. Majority of post-tensioned bridges are constructed using bonded tendons. The Finnish Transportation Agency has not allowed the use of unbonded tendons in primary load-bearing structures due to the possibility of losing the entire prestressing force in the case of anchorage or tendon failure as anchorages transfer the entire prestressing force from the tendons to the concrete.
