Even thou the decline of child mortality in Sweden was a major factor during the demographic transition and that it caused a higher competition of resources in the society. There has been none research of the socioeconomic differences in child mortality in Umeå and Skellefteå in Sweden 1880–1950. This period was also characterized by processes such as the induztrialisation, urbanization and the development of the Swedish welfare state. Which should make it an even more interesting time to study socioeconomic differences in child mortality. The objective in this study was to examine socioeconomic differences in child mortality dependent of the father or mothers socioeconomic position in the society.
