HUBUNGAN ANTARA KEPUASAN PERNIKAHAN DENGAN EMPTY NEST SYNDROME

Empty nest syndrome is a clinical state to illustrate an empty feeling, such as: loss, sadness, depression on the parents when the children begin to leave their home. A factor that suspected affects the level of empty nest syndrome is marriage satisfaction. The marriage satisfaction is an evaluation between husband and wife regarding the marriage relationship as assessed from the basic needs of marriage, such as: material, sexual and psychological needs. This research is aimed to know the correlation between marriage satisfaction and empty nest syndrome on the mother. This research subject involved 150 respondents which was taken from snowball sampling as the sample collection technique. The subjects criterion were chosen from the mother aged 40 – 60 years old domiciled in Magetan district who were left by the children to go to other city and lived with her husband. Furthermore. the data was obtained by using EMS (ENRICH Marital Satisfaction) and empty nest syndrome scale. The analysis process was conducted by correlation analysis using product moment, where the result showed that (r = -0,234) ; ρ = 0,004) which meant there was a negative correlation between marriage satisfaction and empty nest syndrome. In the other words, the higher marriage satisfaction, it would lead lower the empty nest syndrome opportunity and vice versa
