Natural effects of clay minerals for groundwater quality

The behavior of groundwater quality may change due to the existence of the mineral content of the groundwater geochemistry. This study aims to identify the relationship between the clay mineral and groundwater quality. The influence of the clay minerals in the groundwater was to assist in the natural treatment of the groundwater naturally especially in cases where there is low level generation of portable water as a result of pollution. The result of water chemical parameters such as pH, aluminum, iron, manganese, silica and total suspended solids of groundwater obtained from the investigation demonstrated that the parameters satisfied the drinking water quality standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO). The significance of the findings may useful in eliminating the need for filtration using chemicals. This is because the weathering in the clay is capable offorming minerals in bedrocks which could be valuable for natural filtration. Therefore, for effective evaluation of water quality due to the formation of clay minerals, this study must consider the safety level for the ground system in order to construct wells which an aquifers either free or low concentration of pollutant
