In order to exchange live samples of the octopus Octopus vulgaris Cuvier, 1797 among research laboratories or companies, two techniques of transportation were developed: the first one for paralarvae, in 30 l plastic bags filled with seawater (1/3) and O2 (2/3), and the second for adults with a mean weight of about 1 kg, placed in 16 cm diameter PVC tubes covered with mesh in a 200 l tank. Trials were made at different temperatures and densities, during 24 hours. The best results for paralarvae (mortality < 1 %) were obtained with a temperature of about 14 oC at a density up to 3 000 indiv l¿1, while mortalities lesser than 5 % were obtained for adults in a temperature range of 13 to 19 oC and density of up to 165 kg m¿3.Con la finalidad de ...
