Burnout y Engagement en un colectivo preprofesional: estudiantes universitarios

In this study, we test the MBI-GS in university students and identify: a) If the connections observed among the three dimensions of the burnout in professional group are preserved in a preprofessional group; b) The relationships between burnout and engagement to see if they work as "opposite hypothetical concepts''. We also focus on analyzing up to what degree both concepts are important to explain the success, the profesional maturity and the dropout rate among university students. The study is carried out on a sample of 492 students of the University of La Rioja: 215 BBA students (LADE) and 277 Diploma Graduate in Business (DCE). Among the findings of this study note that: a) The connections between the dimensions of the burnout observed for the professional groups are the same for the group of students analyzed. b) There is no conclusive empirical evidence in favour of the hypothesis that the burnout and the engagement are conflicting concepts whose scales are negatively correlated. c) The two main prediction variables of the tendency toward abandonment are the year the student is in and the level of cynicism shown.La presente investigación, que basa sus resultados en una muestra tomada en un colectivo preprofesional (estudiantes universitarios), tiene un triple objetivo: 1) Comprobar las relaciones observadas entre las tres dimensiones del burnout en colectivos profesionales se mantienen para un colectivo preprofesional. 2) Identificar las relaciones entre burnout y engagement; y 3) Estudiar en qué medida el burnout y el engagement son importantes para explicar el éxito, la madurez profesional y la tendencia al abandono de los estudiantes universitarios. La muestra está compuesta por 492 estudiantes de la Universidad de la Rioja, de los cuales 215 cursan la Licenciatura en Administración y Dirección de Empresas (LADE) y 277 la Diplomatura en Ciencias Empresariales (DCE). Entre los resultados hallados, cabe destacar: a) Las relaciones observadas entre las dimensiones del burnout, para colectivos profesionales, se mantienen para el colectivo de estudiantes analizado; b) No encontramos evidencia empírica concluyente a favor de la hipótesis de que el burnout y el engagement son constructos opuestos, cuyas escalas están negativamente correlacionadas; c) Las dos variables predictoras más importantes de la tendencia al abandono son el curso en el que se halla el alumno y el grado de cinismo mostrado
